Went out back early this morning and cut down some thistle. Put a double thickness of cardboard down, then mulch from the arborvitaes growing above. Hopefully this will help keep them down. No sunlight=no thistle. There's no way to really dig up there. Everyone says you have to dig up thistle. The alley is higher then my yard and there's a retaining wall, then the arborvitaes (which are very tall and no way to get under them) then the alley. I don't know how fast these trees grow but if they're like other evergreens, they're maybe 20 years old. I was born and raised in Washington State no one I knew had these trees. Washington is called, "The Evergreen State" for a reason. Then it got too hot to do anything else outside.

Just checked my tomatoes..... Still green. It did rain last night so no watering.

My October beans are getting close. I'll be making pesto today with the garlic I pulled and cured earlier.

Well learned something new today; if you post the picture by itself it comes out normal, if you post it as an attachment it comes out as a thumbnail.

Willow—Really healthy-looking toms. The beans looked a bit like the Borlotti beans.
Thanks for the pics. It looks good there.

I did make it, Loggie. We weeded, mowed the grass paths and prepared a bed. Harvested the Money Makers and they are are beginning to roll in.

Clay, have you had much success with Brandywine tomatoes? We planted them once, and over a full season got one tomato.
You are so ahead of us with the lettuce and spinach. We won't be planting those until October.
