@Anniekay , I have watched a lot of videos about growing ginger, and they all say that they like partial shade/full shade. I just had not gotten this one root planted and it had been setting on my work table for several weeks, and in a sunny window. And it was sprouting those yellow nobbies when I noticed it the other day. So I planted them. I will transplant them to different containers when I get some new ones, and put them in a shadier spot.

And my #2 planting of ginger this year has a small sprout today. So, yay.

What I meant about the coleus, if it goes to SEED, the SEEDS will grow the following spring. The plant itself dies off if left outside. The new plants come up everywhere. I had let some go to seed on my front porch. The following year, there was a huge patch of them close to 6 feet tall. The second year, they are in the back of my pasture, and behind the shed quite a distance from my front porch. I tossed some in a third area a year or so ago that I don't have time to bother with. MINTS come back every year: rosemary, lavender, basil, coleus, oregano, and over 3,000 other kinds of mints. I have pulled out loads of coleus from my yard. My peppermint dies off in fall, but it always comes back in spring.

My scarlet runner beans are up and going.

My grape vines are doing very good now.

My one pecan tree has leaves, and the second one seems to have a leaf bud on top, so hopefully.

Other things are doing well also.

@AAnightowl I can’t imagine coleus 6’ tall. I have adored them for years. They are the easiest to start from cuttings .there are so many interesting leaf colors , shapes it’s intoxicating, since they are annuals in my zone 8b.
Now you have lit the fire I’m ordering coleus just to enjoy the wide variety of colors available.

Here’s some pics of my Heuchera’s . This plant is tough as nails which also has a wide variety of colorful leaves. Had these for years in pots. I cleaned up the plants today , added top soil and slow release fertilizer. Now they are set to go.

This morning I sorted out a tray of Strawberry plants to give to my sister this afternoon as hers have died on her. I'm also giving her a Dahlia to grow in a pot...as her's has not survived the Winter.

Planted our the Sweet Peas that our neighbours kindly gave us. I found this task difficult and very uncomfortable to do as it required me to carefully negotiate stepping over other plants to reach the centre of the border where I ( maybe unwisely) asked hubs to make a frame. Had to use a crutch to steady me.

Filled the big planter with fresh compost and 6 month plant food. Thats now ready to be filled......not sure what with yet........weeds!!!:chuckle:

I finally finished clearing the spring bulbs leaves and cut off the old flowers of the polyanthus around the path. There's some spaces where the polyanthus didn't make it.

I don't really have much yo do today. Last night, well, from 5pm - 1am, I watered everything but my blackberries and my small, newly planted mulberry tree. This morning I have the sprinkler on my small berry patch and then the large blackberry patch will get watered. Some of the berries have started to ripen and due to lack of rain, they are not very big nor are they sweet. Hopefully watering will help them.

Clipped tree branches and used my battery-op handy dandy chainsaw along the perimeter of the property. Mow mow mow your boat looking for ground squirrels, moles, voles, gophers. None in sight or no new mounds. Located zero deer scat or bobcat. But on the trail to descovering live deer watching me , most likely upset that there is no food for them at their old lucky salad bar . The timing of deer spotted on trails Nextdoor just standing in one place . Also noticed burdock coming in thruout the pasture. A highly despised weed . Mowing them down daily to prevent flower forming . Need a few sunny days to spay the pastures with weed containment spray developed for pasture and safe for animals-livestalk. I sectioned off the pastures ready to spray when we dry out some.

Botany in a Day.jpg @Pacnorwest , I never saw coleus so huge either. My mother always had a glassful of coleus growing on a window sill when I was a kid. I have often grown them in a glass of water or a pot. A friend told me a few years ago that if you let coleus go to seed, they will come back every year. The ones I have are dark red. I did not know until a year or so ago, that they are in the mint family. If I grow any more as house plants, I will NOT let them go to seed again. This is the botanist that says they are mints. They do have square stems, and I still pull some up in my front flower bed. Local stores sell seeds for coleus mixes...

A few days ago, I saw an ad for coleus on FB that were not only 6 ft plus tall, but the leaves were giant like elephant ears (taro). I am not sure if I want some of those or not. They were pretty silver and white colors with bits of red.

Another common house plant that some like is wandering Jew. Here and in Texas it is a weed, and most people yank it out. I used to grow it long ago. Here it is a weed and grows all over the place. Thankfully Horsey likes to eat it.

As we're likely to have a wet week-end I decided to scarify the lawn. Then mowed it.

It looks a bit bruised but it will recover.

The roses are doing very well.

We have some Ginger @AAnightowl :) It was in a big pot in the polytunnel and I thought it had died a few winters ago so I planted cacti on top. It pushed up through the cacti and flowered  I'll take a pic if it comes back up this year :D

I absolutely detest that. It just keeps coming back no matter what I do! It's supposed to be edible... I just want it gone.

Nothing today except a bit of watering.
We might get some rain overnight, a bit more later on Saturday and Sunday, but a lot on Monday and Tuesday.

I mowed the yard...again !! I just mowed Sunday but the warm weather is making the grass grow fast. Checked the veg garden and found one more cuce ready for picking. Watered the Rambling rose by the potting shed and that's it for today.
