What have you done today in the Garden?

So nice looking thru the posts of gardeners daily duties, fix-it’s and refreshing the July growth thru warmest temps of the summer. Most importantly enjoy the comments and feedback by extremely seasoned gardners.

Sjoerd since you have unlimited access to canal water maybe install a quick shower with a filter to cool off or a quick run thru the sprinklers. It is tempting on hot summer days. I have a sprinkler with a built in filter … protection against ground water in the well that can irritate skin.

Riley I hear ya on that light fix. Light in the garden at night is always a point of interest showing all the efforts you have accomplished in your night garden as well as the daytime. I have to replace the pump in the pond for the waterfall. Not sure I need to bother it’s been a good pump system for many years… I think I can live without it … we'll see…I will miss the sound of the waterfall.
I also had to clip the wisteria up on the roof again and years of climbing up there it never gets dull. Took pic of the mimosa tree it’s in full bloom.

The hummers are on it like flies on honey.

 

Pac— haha. We have piped canal water available to the Allotmenteers. I would not want to shower in it. Pee-uw.

I haven't been on for a while but my garden is doing good. I have a butternut squash that is going crazy! One of them (I have 2)is probably 13 feet long. I always put whatever winter squash I plant next to the edge and let it go up a trellis that I have leaning against the fence. The trellis is probably 6 feet. The one went up one and kept going. So I put another one going down. It's at the end so I had to find (I'm out of trellises) something else. I'm just waiting to hear a knock on my door and open it to find that squash plant waiting for me.


My grapes are doing well as is my chamomile.

Daniel, what kind of squash are those? I know to prune summer squash; but can winter squash be pruned as well?

 

I prune my butternut squash after they have about three on because then the vine puts all it's energy into the fruits. Mine are trellised as well. I think Daniel does this too but we'll see what he has to say.

 

Annie—you got that right. It is very stinky water at certain times of the year.

You ought to get a very decent harvest from the tatties. What kind are they?
