My daddy and uncle Dutch would go squirrel hunting in the Wabash bottoms where there were lots of hickory trees to attract the little bushy tailed rodents. They would come home, sit under the big elm tree and "prepare" the squirrels. Then my honorary aunt, Mrs. Darr, would make a stew using the squirrel meat. Anything she cooked was delicious. She could probably have made opossum palatable.

I couldn't do any butchering, when i was growing up I wouldn't even go into the butchers with my mum I stayed outside, didn't like the smell.
In those days it used to be a small shop butchers with sawdust on the floor

Cayuga, I do not butcher squirrels! We don't have squirrels here on the farm--they hang out in the pecan bottoms along the creek about 1/2 mile from here.
I did butcher a piglet once. Our plumber's mother bought feral hogs and he butchered them. One sow was brought in with piglets. He eviscerated one, cut off the head and hooves, put it in a cooler and brought it to me as a "welcome" gift. I managed to get fresh hams, side meat, a tenderloin and a rump roast, and ruined an apron. I finally understood why he told me to "let it bleed out." If I hadn't had a cookbook that explained the different cuts and where they were on a pig, we would have been eating shredded pork for months!

Mart, I don't clean fish. If a friend fishes our stock tank, we get half the catch--gutted out, de-scaled, and headless. I clean vegetables, and that's all!

Pesto pasta with asparagus, fresh spinach, pistachios and a squeeze of lemon. It was delish.

Yesterday had tinned tomatoes on toast with a fried egg. Hubby had a fried egg toasted sandwich and a sausage toasted sandwich.

Today it's roast turkey and stuffing with all the veg and gravy.
Then summer pudding with ice cream.
I cook a large turkey then portion it up and put in freezer, same with the stuffing.
Doing that sort of pudding uses up the left over bread.
