Aaaw, @Pacnorwest, is that Primula as blue as it looks like? I've tried blue ones so many times, but they die on me. I've got all sorts of other colours. They thrive. But the blue ones just won't.

yes that is a blue so true and tried , been in my garden for years ..deer , ground critters don’t like them. It doesn’t get much water in summer much like the hellebores..

Logan very cool pic.. I’m waiting patiently…. so far not even a bud showing up on the hellebores. that is a beauty. The only issue I have taking pics of these flowers is standing on my head to get a pic they are so low to ground level.
then there is the stinky hellebore …in warm days in early summer you’d think a skunk was in the hellebore garden… but nope it’s just what these flowers seem to do …Phew…

Pacnorwest thanks and yes that's the trouble trying to take a pic with one hand on the flower and the other one holding the phone and trying to use the thumb to click the button. Be patient they will grow, all my others are still coming up and there's a lot.

Lovely bloom, @Logan! We're still waiting for ours. They're in bud, and some are starting to open up. Gosh, Pacnorwest, that's some twilight alright.

Helleborus orientalis Atropurpurea, the earliest here. It's darker than the photo shows. In mild winters it often starts in December. It doesn't take kindly to snow, unfortunately, so if we get snow the blooms die.
