Nice surprise to see so many beautiful blooms. I especially liked the yellow peony. I always enjoy pics of your garden, you never disappoint .
@Pacnorwest many thanks for your kind and encouraging post. I find that I do most of my planning in my head at night as I lay in bed trying to sleep ( always been a bad sleeper). Usually only to discover the next day that the 'gap' I had visions for had a dormant plant insitu that had snuggled itself down out of sight to overwinter!!! It's then a case of finding a vacant spot as near as possible to where I had hoped to plant out. I think it's fair to say our garden is a bit of a' hit and miss' affair really I stun myself at times when looking back over the seasons photos at just how nice some parts turned out!!! This year it's a messy, do want you want theme running through the borders.....which I might adopt in the future ....my only true bugbear are Daffodil and Tulip leaves , I just have to get rid as soon as possible after allowing them their allocated time slot for nourishing their bulbs. My thinking is ( finally after walking up and down our lane and surrounding ones for the last 43 years) that in nature there is no uniformed planning.. plants know best where to thrive and the airborne seeds always seem to find their ideal spot to ensure success for the next generation . Mother Nature at her best. So it's an unruly look this year what comes up where is staying .....apart from Dandelions that is!! It has suited my inabilities this year while opening my eyes to.......perhaps ... a slightly easier gardening style.....or not. I am and will still be out in the garden in all weathers, just not stressing so much at areas that may be regarded at looking a little...unkempt shall we say. In a way we have been easing up slightly over the last couple of years by making sure we have at least 2- 3 days out and about away from home and garden..just enjoying each others company and not working our way through indoor and outdoor tasks. We are trying to spend more quality time together now that our brood are happy and settled. Life is for sharing together now....as it has a way of suddenly creeping up on you and disappearing unfortunately.
Daniel— I like your piccies, but that white iris with the bluish-purple petal edges I find breathtaking. Pac—Beautiful iris piccies, meid. Zigs— that’s the good thing about this website innit. Is that a Malva opening-up there?
Daniel, you have come up with the same conclusion as I have concerning the garden. I find that now, planning is best forgotten. If there's a space somewhere and I have any plant to fill it, that's where it goes. So far, so good. As I have difficulty with putting photos on since I had to change my laptop, I will ask Zigs -nicely- if he could take a few up to date pictures for me. When it comes to those bulbs, and their unsightly leaves - one idea is to plant them all in pots and bury them between your perennials. That way you can let them die back naturally and they can do it behind the shed where they don't spoil the view. Then replace the pots when they're all gorgeous again.
oh lots of pretty plants coming up!! I have my own bearded iris growing! The yellow ones have bloomed! My chives have also bloomed in great number and they are so beautiful!! My columbine have also exploded with blooms, both plants but I'll show the one under my weeping cherry blossom because it's both purple and white Also my solomon's seal is blooming too
oh i forgot my hosta plant! It's so big, I had to use Meateor as a scale for measurement. it's bigger than him and he's not a small cat!
Very nice flowers Shaw and Annie. There are so many nice-looking ones that you are showing. It is nice to see that your Hemerocallis is blooming, Annie. Mine only have buds Anyway girls, nice to see your beauties. p.s. Shaw, I forgot to mention how lovely that soft yellow iris looks. What a jewel that is.
Annie: Look at that variety! I love them so much! My day lilies aren't bound to start blooming for another month and my hydrangea for 2 months after, and here yours are in their full glory! So gorgeous! Love all of them Sjoerd: Thank you! I cannot wait until my purple bearded iris pops open. they are so close! I really love those ones, they are extra beautiful (to me) But I am so glad I was able to get the yellow ones too I wish I could have enjoyed them longer but it was raining for most of their bloom time.
Thanks @Sjoerd and @Shawchert I am drooling over your Solomon's seal, Shaw, as that is one of my faves that it's just too hot to grow in my zone !!
While passing down this page of blooms my eyes got bigger and bigger . Wonderful blooms to see . Thanx everyone. this is great…Nothing like goin on a garden tour from your comfey of your living room chair…
@Anniekay Awww thank you! I got them at the plant sale last year. I always worry about my new perennials not coming back in the following year because they always look so sad after transplant but they do come back and happy as can be. These guys are definitely shade happy and I think this one likes its little spot on my northeastern side! It does get hot pretty fast, so it also dies off quickly. I was glad to be able to get a good shot of them
