They were a staple food for the Nez Perce people. Lewis and Clark ate them but developed digestive problems. They are really vigorous here, multiply quickly.
I think I have one of those starting to flower. I kept looking at the bud trying to figure out what it could be. A neighbor gave me some bulbs two years ago and I stuck them in an available spot. When the bud opens I'll know for sure, but it closely resembles your Camassia .
I have been very busy the last two months, cleaning, building, hauling dirt, cement, painting, fixing, planting and fishing and drinking beer. So I decided to post everything at one time. My 2025 landscape:
WOW !! @Jersey Devil you have been busy !! I love those two carts!! Did you make those? That big Poinsettia is amazing !! You have a touch with Poinsettias. I've never seen anyone grow one that big !! How long have you had it ?
@Jersey Devil. So many creative displays. Interesting and well balanced with color, style and humor in several vignettes. I like that idea of separating sections that tells a story - vignettes always adds interest and excitement for the viewers. Adding hardscapes and characters give's the impression that the gardener is also a character. Your imagination along with plants of different shapes, colors, textures add interest and depth to each vignette. Congrats to a very successful project . I really enjoyed each display .
It’s warm enough for the pond fish to pop up for insects. the Rhody’s are poppin. Picked a few rhodies & lilacs for a window display. Clematis Back garden
@Anniekay thank you. It’s Rhody season and they are all so beautiful this time of year here in the PNW. Every yard has at least two or three. Your figs along with Daniel’s will be interesting to watch this year. Did you know the white milky sap can cause allergies for some people, but reportedly treat tumors and wounds for others. I happen to be allergic to the white sap & learned that the hard way one season while trimming a fig tree .
No, I didn't know that the sap can irritate skin. Evidently it hasn't affected me, but Carolina jasmine !! it grows wild in the South and I get a really bad poison ivy type rash from that. Not for nothing, I'm not allergic to poison ivy !!
