What's New in your garden?

Today I had it easy in powderising about a 100 plus egg shells for my garden. Yes I always break the egg shell into smithereens before adding into my bed and compost pile.
This is what I used when I first started and it takes me more than an hour.


Now I use this which I just inherited from the kitchen.

It was given to us by a friend who do not want it anymore and it had been in our kitchen on active duty for more than 9 years.
Now it takes me half an hour tops.
Life is getting easier in the garden

 

KK Ng. Good to see you can crush egg shells with the food processor. A lot easier and saved the hands a bit too. I use a small coffee bean grinder to crush egg shells into powder.

I use a mortar and pestle for my eggshells too. I used a food processor for a while, but I thought the shells might be dulling the blade and abrading the container. I just make the shells very coarse, not as fine as sand.

Thanks Daniel, there is no worries about dull blade here because it is now 100% a garden tool!

 

KK...this is brilliant. I have my first food processor up in storage for years now with a few flaws, but would work well for this. I don't put egg shells in the compost because of bears, and my arthritis makes that much mortar and pestil work a slog.

I'm going to reintroduce the retired food processor to active garden only duty. Ground up the bears don't care about the egg shells.

I use powder egg shells on my indoor plants soil. Once the shells come out of the coffee grinder in a smooth powder I put a layer over the top soil of house plants to eliminate those pesky soil gnats. Not one so far so good. The eggs can’t hatch and escape thru the egg shell coating. No chemicals…

 

And to think I've just being throwing mine in the compost all these years.
