The variety of things that work successfuly as additions to compost are legion. I have managed a few times to find things that I won't add again to a compost. Human hair The combings from a hair brush still routinely (one head-or dog at a time), go into my compost. No problem. I did solicit from a beautician about four lawn bags of human hair. I did not try to layer it in either. It all went in, in one mass. The scent was rather like I imagine what composting your mother-in-law smells like. :'(
"The scent was rather like I imagine what composting your mother-in-law smells like" UGH I'm glad that I've never been tempted to add human hair to my compost bins. Not that I've ever tried composting my MIL - I think she'd object if I did!!
I didn't do this: A neighbor milk-cow farmer had a couple calfs pass away. rather than bury them he simply put them in the center of his manure pile. I didn't know intact bovine remains would float. Neither did he. Not nice.
