I haven't seen my woodpeckers for a few weeks now. I presume they've found themselves a good nesting site in the woods somewhere and have changed their feeding patterns now there are more grubs to be had.

Lucky you!! I have never been able to get a shot of the Pileated woodpecker. There is some that I hear calling in the woods behind my house and I see them but I'm never fast enough to get a shot. Thanks for sharing.

I've been seeing and hearing woodpeckers around too. They don't let me get close, but I think they look like Pileateds.

Great photo! I've heard them around, but not seen them yet here. I did see my first hummingbird today though! Still waiting for the goldfinches to arrive.

Thinking back upon when I lived on West Lacassine Bayou, there were daily visits of this beautiful bird.

Of interest, once I was outside and there were these huge black ants that made our property their home. This pileated woodpecker was on the ground eating them up. I felt bad for the ants, though.

Ants are so interesting. Am I correct
    'kildale'?

Flickers are great ant eaters and are one of a few woodpeckers that go on the ground.
