You go into the post office, putting on your mask & you get enveloped by an order of potting soil.
.... you ask for clay flower pots and garden tools for birthdays and Christmas's. This year a want a new pair of garden gloves and some wild flower seeds .... oh and maybe another water lily.
Shoe stores, dress shops? NO, give us a good plant nursery, a seed source, and good gardening tools.
Sorry guys, I'm sure you ignore muffler shops, auto supply stores, and sports shops, but I wouldn't know about those.
When you ask for (& get) a leaf blower for Christmas.
When you drive around looking at other peoples yard, and stop to ask what kind of tree/plant/flower they have, (and you dont know them). They look at you like your crazy.
When you stop at unknown people's yards to ask about their plants and turns out they're just as wild about gardening as you are and you walk away from them two hours later with a bag full of new plants in your hand and a new friend in your heart.
…when you become frustrated when you go to a large garden centre, walk and walk and walk, following their serpentine trajectory through sofas, chairs, bbq’s, pictures, chairs, tables, clothing, lighting elements, vases, parasols, stuffed animals to finally arrive at plants— plastic plants.
Eventually you do come to the real plants, seeds and other actual gardening items. Then more furniture. In the end, you then stand at the cashier complaining only to hear when asked why we had to walk through all the non-gardening stuff to come to where she was, she said, “ Tja, otherwise no one would come here”.
When i rather do things in the garden instead of going out to see friends and family.
When you impress upon your wife the need for her to make a quick stop on her errands for 300 lbs of fertilizer.
You would rather have new plants than new cloths.
When you wake up and it is still dark and you are champing at the bits to get out there as soon as you can see enough to get out there. More so when it is still dark and you are already in the garden waiting for the first light.
….you sit up at 1 o’clock in the morning reading GardenStew postings and posting some yourself, instead of just going to bed and getting a good night’s sleep.
A good nights sleep?? What is that? I am guilty of this 1am morning posting..LOL
You know your a gardener when your outside at night with a flashlight and a bucket a suds picking off slugs from the prized hostas.
When you're planning on what you're going to do next year and waiting for the new seed catalogues to arrive.
