Thank you Logan it is quite something to cope with the daily devastation. Tunnels around the foundations and tons in the pastures, the loss is unfathamable. The entire garden is raised beds. These Belding ground squirrels have been known to wipe out entire crops in the west . Even climb up 4-5’ siding to get into raised planters to eat plants. This year my grapes are coming back after years of these horrible Belding squirrels eating their roots by climbing up and over a 4’ raised barrier was a veggie bed. They eat the roots of my apple and cherry trees. Have lots of cherries this year the first in ages really, since I started trapped them . I caught another one in the trap today. They are little terrors. Have lost thousands $ in trees shrubs and many of fav plants. To replace some plants is more costly 5-10 x’s more than when they were first planted. Some trees started from seed the roots have been eaten and the trees die. It’s heart breaking really. It’s a constant battle. I’m getting so tired , I don’t bounce back like I used to, especially the past few years they have devastated my home and garden . It’s also the moles, voles, gophers… but the deer have stayed away since I keep the pastures mowed so low. Every once in awhile a deer will try to sneak inside the garden area to get lily or hydrangea buds. They seem to leave the roses alone… don’t like the thorns. I’m hoping to end this siege this year some how.
