I have a friend who has cancer and wanted to make a little gift for her. She enjoys the bird pics that I take. Lately I've been taking close-ups of daylilies and other flowers and I want to use one of them in my gift. I have made drink coasters and plaques before by decoupaging on tiles, but always used a print that I bought, wrapping paper, etc. I've never tried decoupaging a photo before. Will it work? If you have ideas using photos to make any kind of gift, please share them with me.

    Thanks so much!

I'm sorry, Bluebirdie, I've never tried, but I've read in my books that photos are OK to use for decoupage. How about a serving tray with the photos in the bottom? You might have to cut them so they don't overlap, but it might work well.

You can decopage just about anything as long at it is thin enough...So you should be able to to do photos without any problem.

I printed up some photos of my friends dog after he passed and had my other friend decoupage them to a flower pot. Then she added some 3-d decorations she makes from clay. You could do a pot & add a plant or a vase and add flowers. I like the tray idea too.
Or you could adhere them to a stiff material, plastic maybe, and make a mobile.

I'd make a collage of your photographs and glue them to thick card. You could then cover them in clear acetate, buy or make a frame and you'd have a lovely picture to hang on the wall. :stew1:

You could find a lap desk with the bean bag pillow bottom and a plain wood top and decoupage the photos on the top. I don't do much letter writing, but I use the one my daughter made me to lay the book on when I am reading.

I believe there is a substance that you can dip real flowers in to make them permanant. I have seen them in jewelry catalogues. You should be able to find them in craft stores or try silicone to make a dried bouquet.

They all sound like wonderful ideas to me. I like home made magnets. Scrapbooks are always fun. Good luck! I'm sure she'll love and appreciate anything you make for her.

Thank you all for the great ideas. They give me a lot to think about and experiment with. If it turns out nice, I'll post a picture.

    Thanks again!

How 'bout doing a fabric transfer and making her a pillow or wallhanging? I did this with baby pics of my MIL's 9 children and it was easy and turned out beautifully.

BTW, my hubby is the bottom right little guy. Wasn't he a cutie? LOL.

More great ideas! I love the quilt jakrum! I'm afraid I'm not a quilter, although my mother makes beautiful quilts.

I've added a Bible verse to a daylily photo that I took. I'm going to try decoupaging it to a tile or to the top of a painted wood box. It seems like a photo will be a little thick for decoupaging. I'm going to look for some high quality paper today that will make a nicer print than just ordinary printer paper.

Thanks again for all the ideas.
