Hosta madness part II

Category: Garden | Posted: Wed Jun 11, 2008 2:03 pm

It's raining very hard outside, and that bodes well for most of our hostas. They like wet, but not standing wetness or bog conditions. This rain will make them grow big, and hopefully the sun will come out and give them colour later.

This little sweetie is "Vanilla Cream". Not much vanilla there as of yet:

"Red October":

"Snowflakes", a hosta that is really good at spreading out:

I think this one's called "Pearl Lake":

"Christmas Tree":

"On Stage":

Hosta sieboldiana "Elegans", it's big, blue and beautiful:

This one's called "Striptease":

"Frances Williams", another big one:

"Minuteman", still young:

"Whirlwind", also very young:

This is "Great Expectations":

We've still got a few more out there.

O-M-G......What a display!
These are even better than the last bunch, I think. It is magical.
All the leaves seem to be in good condition--you must be out there plucking slugs day and night.
Well, whatever you are doing...it right. They are absolutely gorgeous, Droopy......chapeau!

I really like hosta but haven't had much luck growing them. Maybe I should buy plants instead of starting with roots. Yours are beautiful. doolely

I'm saving all these so that when I go to a garden centre I'll know just what ones are on display. Around here they tend to sell them as just - 'Foliage plant/Hosta' - which really isn't much help. I hope you'll post the rest of your photographs Droopy as I'm thoroughly enjoying seeing all the different varieties of hostas you have.

Those are gorgeous.
Wish I could grow some here but my water bill would be well into the three digits just to keep them alive, more if I tried to make them thrive.
So I will just enjoy looking at yours.

WOW Droopy, Those are all so beautiful!!! You are lucky to be able to grow them. I guess that is what makes the world such a wonderful place, ie: diversity! I don't think it would be very easy or even possible to have those in my yard. Thanks for posting your photos so we can enjoy their beauty!!!! Kathy

Jumpin Crickets!!! Those are amazing! I gotta find some of those. okay at least one. Droopy those are very beautiful, and thank you for sharing them with all of us.

Thanks all for your very kind comments. I shall have to admit to cheating a bit... We grow all those, but some of the photos are taken at my mother's garden because her plants just looked better or were bigger. *blush*

If you're certain that you're not tired of hostas, I'll post more once the later ones have developed a bit more. Some of them are still unfurling out there.

The hosta are beautiful. I showed them to my husband so he would be sure and recognize a "living hosta." I am going to the garden center this weekend for some to start my hosta garden with. I will definitely look for Pearl Lake - I think it is so pretty. Keep the pictures coming!

Thanks both! Debbie, I hope your husband will learn to appreciate the hostas eventually. They are all my husband's pets, and he's crazy about them.
