Rodos part V - flowers, critters and other bits and pieces

Category: Ramblings | Posted: Sat Aug 30, 2008 7:14 pm

I saw a few plants and blooms in Rodos, and I actually remembered to photograph some too. Most of the time I forgot, because I was busy admiring them. Yes, hopeless, I know. The following photos are taken in the median of the main road into Rodos:

A few of the assorted blooms from here and there:

This palm or fern really is something else, I've never seen it's like before:

A gorgeous Euphorbia:

Decorative pumpkins:

A trumpet vine at Captain's Garden:

Look at the ting, how it climbs:

This is a tree trunk, I love the colours of the bark:

More trees:

Probably a weed, but pretty:

Lots of Agave blooming:

We saw a few of these:

A lot of these:

The girls wondered what used to live inside these shells:

We found one, and had a closer look at it before letting it go:

A gorgeous butterfly:

And a looker of a beetle who had crawled inside an overripe fig:

These stick bugs (translated from Norwegian, sorry) jumped about in the dead straw:

Don't know what kind of birds these were, but there were lots of them:

One of the helicopters working the fire:

A very delicate bathroom in one of our favourite restaurants:

The little train that gives tours every hour:

Mouth-watering grapes:

Oh, how I miss the heat, smells and tastes already. *sigh*

Wonderful pictures. Beautiful landscaping in the medians

The shells and their occupants are Cicada's. They are the noise of hottest part of the summer around here, we have the yearly Cicada's whereas other places have the every 17 year variety.

What a wonderful collection of pictures this time, Droopy. Truly a little bit of everything--from flowers to insects to toilets to helicopters. What more could a reader ask for.
IO really liked the looks of the hibiscus flowers and the bougainvilla.
Thanks very much for taking the time to show these.

I love the photographs of the trees Droopy. The one with the different coloured bark reminds me of camourflage clothing. Love the shots of the stick insects, butterfly and lizard and, of course all those wonderful plants and flowers.

Thank you. :D We could hear the Cicadas singing all the time, and it was very loud now and then. I'm glad you liked my "pot-luck" photos. The tree with the camouflage bark had maple-like leaves, but I don't know what kind of tree it is.

Those piccies are exceptional. Such different horticulture there. That's also a very luxurious bathroom scene. I think I would have taken that picture too. I enjoy your travel photos so much, Droopy.

Thank you gardengater, I'm glad you liked them. If I had shown photos of the ordinary restaurant bathrooms you would have understood better why I had to photograph that one. *lol* Greek bathrooms aren't renowned for their luxury.

Wonderful photos Droopy. What a vacation eh, I can see how you miss it. You actually got me a longing a bit to holiday in Malta again.

I especially miss the warm sea, now that autumn is really making itself known around here. *deep sigh* Go off, visit Malta again Frank. It's still there.

You really have captured some great shots Droopy. The grapes are really quite nice, I love the angle of the shot.
