Ducks

Category: My Mini Farm | Posted: Tue Mar 31, 2009 3:56 am

This morning while doing my routine jobs of feeding all our animals I noticed there were two of our animals missing. The silence from their nesting area and no visual concerned me. Our two beloved black ducks were no where to be seen. My husband admitted he had not shut the coop area for the ducks the night before. I had hoped that they got an early start to their day of foraging. I kept an eye out for them all day. It became apparent they will not return. After re-inspecting their coop I found evidence to suggest that a predator came in the night and got them. We had grown to really enjoy our ducks and they also just started laying a few eggs. We have more on order but, this bred is kinda hard to get without paying a bigger price. My daugher had raised these from babies and they were our first time trying ducks.

Funny Farm

Category: My Mini Farm | Posted: Thu Mar 26, 2009 4:40 am

Today was off and on rain so not much got done outside. When we were able we went out and spent time with our various animals. The goats are so fun to be around. They are very affectionate and delightfull to watch. They have a tiered area of stumps that they like to climb abd jumb around on. They love to nuzzle us and recieve some petting.Since we got the goats our dog has exhibited some signs of jealously. It reminds me of when we brought our second child home to the first born. The dog keeps trying to make sure we haven't forgotten him. Kinda hard to do he's sweet too. Our ducks are also fun as well. They're entertaining with their quaking and waddle to their step. I am so happy we have these animals and our funny little farm

Our new goat

Category: My Mini Farm | Posted: Sun Mar 22, 2009 1:13 am

We've had such a busy weekend so far. On Friday we went to pick up our new boer doe. She is mostly white with a brown head. She is so sweet and loving. We have decided to name her Jenna. She joins our Nubian doe, who remains nameless. No one can agree on her name yet. We have been busy getting our two girls settled into their new home. They are so cute especially, when they cry out MAAAMAAAA . It was so fun bringing our latest doe home. She was in a crate in the back of our truck. She kept crying out as we drove. We had to drive through a residential area and each time we would stop and she would cry we would get some strange looks. No one could see her just hear her. I am sure they were wondering who we had back there becasue it sounds kinda like a child yelling MA.

Timber 2

Category: My Mini Farm | Posted: Thu Mar 19, 2009 4:28 am

Today we continued the clean up efforts from our cut tree. We were able to burn small amounts of trimmings in a campfire pit.It helped us quickly reduce our work. we decided to remove some other smaller trees and shrubs that were either dead or needing to go. I am glad the weather has been warmer then usual to get this done. It also helps that my husband has been off the last few. He goes back to work soon so we will be thankful we had this time. I have so many projects it seems to get done. I have many seedlings started for our gardens.I also have so much yard work to attend to. I always seem to feel a little crazy from it all at first. To add to the excitement we will be getting a new baby goat soon. We pick up or new little girl on Friday.

Timber

Category: My Mini Farm | Posted: Tue Mar 17, 2009 3:25 am

We again had some wonderful weather. Both my husband and I had the day off to get a few things done. We decided before we got our veggie gardens going for the year to trim back a mulberry that was shading the east side of the garden. This ended up being more of a job then I anticipated. Our communication lines must have gotten crossed. The next thing I knew my husband had cut down almost all of the tree. It was decided to cut it completely down after that. Thankfully the tree wasn't full grown. It looks like we will have another busy day ahead chipping the branches and stacking the logs. I am not sure what we will do with the stump that is left. It may come in handy as a stool to sit on after a hard day working in the garden.
