Silverkelts Woodland Rose Garden

Hansa Rose

Category: Roses and Garden | Posted: Sun Jun 14, 2009 11:25 pm

Well , Roses are my first love of the garden...

Hansa is a little scraggly , but the fragrance is to die for! Seriously! If you are in the north and want to try one rugosa based on fragrance... I would suggest this one. There are other hybrid rogosa with prettier faces and habits... BUT my word! A complex mix of Clove and Rose. I love it!

Ill get a list of some of the plants at some point =).

Work in late April and May creating mixed border

Category: Roses and Garden | Posted: Sun Jun 14, 2009 6:36 pm

As this is a new blog , so a little background info first. We had moved in November of last year from western Maine to Southern Maine about a 35 mile move. We had a ranch with about a acre worth of land, which was mostly cleared. The new home is a much nicer colonial, with more land, but smack dab in the middle of the woods. To create garden space, Ive had to create it out of the woods, which has been alot of back breaking work.

Some pics. Front house...

Front yard, where first mixed border garden is going into...

Me working on front bed border...

Well you get wood, when you cut wood.. Alot of this was burnable wood, which I passed on to friends, I dont have a wood burner here...

Front view of new bed...

Mulched and planted..

Side view...

When creating new garden beds in the middle of the woods, you need amendments, I got two truckloads of composted horse manure and shavings... about 10 yards of loam and some compost.

This was phase I... I have 3 or 4 phases of making mixed borders.

More to come!

Thanks for looking
