The other love in my life besides gardening and OreoI don't know if I've said much about my candle making.I make container candles. This is a hobby I started back in 1999.It was a great way to make extra money. It also almost killed me in the process. I was working at the Guard Shack app.40 hours a week and in my candles app.50 hours a week sometimes night and day.As most of you know I ended up with a heart attack.I have slowed down on everything I do.Well now its just a hobby. The pictures are bad quality but I hope it gives an idea of them. I have about 350 or more bottles of scent oil.My camera doesn't take good indoor pictures but I've attempted to show you some of my things.I have 5 shelves full that wont show as they are in the dark hall way of my candle camper house A few that wont fit in the shelves, also one of my pouring pitchers in the middle of the scent oil. A few of what I made the past 2 nights finished product except for the labels haven't been applied. Another view. My problem is I don't know when to stop when I start so I put off making them until I have so many to make at once.I turned to gardening .Thats really what started my gardening . Did you have to learn the art of candle making from scratch in '99 Glenda or had you prior knowledge? I would imagine it is quite addictive once you get started.
I had to learn by trial and error Frank.Lots of errors.:)
Oh I'd love to see them in 'real life' Glenda and smell them too. What do you do with them once you have them all finished?
I do sell them to a small amount of people. If I advertised I would be back into business as people look for them every where. They are triple scented and most of them do smell great.I had to make 5 leather and I hate to make those. The scent makes me sick to my stomach.I am out now and will not buy anymore leather.I am alergic the any pine scent are cedar so I don't make those.Heather had her on company before she was pregnant with Trey .She did great. She was around me all time making them and paid no attention to how they were made .Then they flew me to Montana to teach her how. They had all of the things she would need includeing the melter when I got there.
Glenda, I started making candles about 5 years ago. Just for family and gifts. I only have 30 bottles of scents, the ones I know we all like. I have a leather also and can't stand it so I haven't made candles using it.
I use only 2 and both are great.Lonestar and Bittercreek. Are yours soft wax? I really enjoy doing them and really now mostly for family.
Not sure what you mean by soft wax. Is that specifically for container candles?
Oh my goodness,i adore candles! You lucky girl...My son makes me some sometimes ,i got 2 at xmas he made, ill show ya some time.i'd love to buy 1 from ya, let me know the cost etc, get back with me,,,
Yes,toni it is a container wax.I buy it by the case.
Since I started making candles my 'dream' was to afford to order a case of wax. I usually could only buy one or two 10 pound slabs at a time. Last year I ordered a case, 5 of the 10lb slabs plus some scents and colors I was out of. The UPS man was not happy to be carrying that box up my driveway, but he did bring it in and put it on the table for me. Speaking of which, it is time to order more and get started on the dozens of votives I make my Mother for both Christmas and Mother's Day.
I give most of mine as gifts also toni.I just love making them and seeing people really enjoy the smell. Login or register to leave a comment. |
