Weather is not warm here in Orlando.

Category: Garden, Flowers and Citrus in Orlando, FL | Posted: Thu Dec 16, 2010 10:10 pm

The weather has turned very chilly here in December.
I have been covering plants and shrubs for about a week. I use freeze cloth that I have sewed into very large pillow cases that fit over the ficus tree to protect the orchids. Old bedspreads, blankets and sheets do well to protect my plants. I sew several old sheets end to end to cover large areas of plants. I think the lowest temperature has been about 31 degrees for a very short period. It did not effect my tangerine, orange or grapefruit trees. All the Amaryllis in pots are fine and the ones in the ground are too. My string beans were covered with freeze cloth and they had no problem with the cold weather.
It is warm today about 70 degrees so we uncovered the plants but plan to cover them again on Sunday afternoon when it turns cold again. Our grass is all straw colored.
