Distribution: Mexico - Chihuahua, Coahuila de Zaragoza, Durango; USA - New Mexico, Texas
synonymes: Mammillaria tuberculosa, Coryphantha varicolor, C.dasyacantha v.varicolor, Escobaria dasyacantha v.varicolor.
Generally solitary, up to 12 cm tall 7 cm in diameter.
Escobaria tuberculosa is the type species of the genus.
E.strobiliformis is widely used as a syn. for E.tuberculosa, but this is a misnomer and strobiliformis can be identified as E.chihuahuensis.
Encounterability: Unusual in collections
