If out in nature and away from a restroom of some sort, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT use for a toilet paper substitute. Although it feels soft and seems like it would do well, you will be itching for about three days.

Seed propagation is slow. Seeds must be planted when harvested (around July when pod turns pale and will fall off) and undergo winter freezing in the soil before sprouting the next or even later years. The first few years it will have one small leaf as the rhizome grows. In later years, it will produce three leaves for a few years before flowering around the seventh year.

You can tell which ones will flower because they will have two leaves instead of one. The ones with one leaf are sterile.

This tree contains Quinine, a treatment for Malaria. Because of it's flowers and wood, this tree also offers considerable horticultural and commercial value.

Leggier than the Dutch hyacinths, but readily multiplies. Flower size is proportional to bulb size. I love this bulb/flower.
