Cayuga Morning (1356) wrote the following about Hosta montana 'Aureomarginata' on Apr 28 2013

This is one of my favorite hostas. I am slowly dividing it and planting it around my property. The variegated leaves are eye catching. Deer don't seem to bother with it, unlike some other hostas. Pest free in my yard.

Cayuga Morning (1356) wrote the following about Pulmonaria officinalis on Apr 21 2013

This plant is attractive both in bloom and out: the flowers are dainty and progress from a pink to a lavendar and finally to a blue; the folidage varigated, green with white dots, very attractive even when not in bloom. HOWEVER, in my garden it self-sows everywhere, even to the lawn. I have pulmonaria coming up everywhere!

Cayuga Morning (1356) wrote the following about Iris cristata on Apr 20 2013 (Last edit was on Apr 20 2013)

I love this little plant. It is great as a ground cover, very low maintenance, gradually increases in size, but never invasive. Can grow successfully on a slope. The short iris leaves appear to give motion to the garden. Interesting texture. I grow this iris more for its foliage than for its flower. The flower is just a bonus.

Cayuga Morning (1356) wrote the following about Hosta 'Gold Standard' on Apr 20 2013

Great color, good for color contrast against greenery of other plants.

Cayuga Morning (1356) wrote the following about Pachysandra terminalis on Apr 20 2013

Pachysandra is great in the right spot: a place where it can grow without causing headaches for th gardener. It is quite aggressive and difficult to contain.

Cayuga Morning (1356) wrote the following about Digitalis purpurea on Apr 15 2013

Foxgloves are short-lived in my garden, but they easily reproduce from seed. They are the kind of plant that once you have them, you always have them. Just be sure to allow at least once flowering stalk to go to seed. I planted a 'forest' of foxgloves by scarifying the soil, then shaking a seed stalk over it.

This really needs less excessive heat and more moisture than found in my garden in Zone 8a. I won't be replacing it.

toni (36069) wrote the following about Genista racemosa on Apr 09 2013

I am not planting another of these. The Genista Caterpillar stripped the plant bare then down to the ground, then it died. I plant for caterpillars but only ones that don't pig out on the plants ;)

Cayuga Morning (1356) wrote the following about Rhododendron 'PJM' on Apr 08 2013

Great plant. No problems with insect or animal pests with this plant. I have grown them in various gardens

Cayuga Morning (1356) wrote the following about Cercis canadensis on Apr 08 2013

This tree will self sow readily but is not invasive.
I planted a redbud in our garden perhaps 15 yesrs ago. It has bloomed and looked truly lovely for years. Unfortunately the winter of 2011-12, a heavy storm severely damaged the tree. (I have given up hope
