I love this plant. My mother brought it home to me from our farm in western NY state over 20 years ago. I have grown it ever since. It self-seeds so I have passed its offspring on to various friends. The leaves are deep green and very glossy. Flowers appear late (August-September) in New England. Great plant.

I love bleeding heart. Very easy to grow in New England. Mounding habit, not invasive. Even looks good in a flower vase.

I do like bee balm, the flower form is so unusual. However, I find it frustrationg to grow. It travels thinly about my garden, so that I get a stalk here, 2 stalks there, etc. Not a cohesive show. It is also subject to mildew.

Lately I have been transplanting the 'travelers' together in the spring to have a more cohesive showing. It is working, but of course I don't find it labor free.

My absolute favorite fragrance for candles, soap and incense.

Too tall for my taste, actually. Very nice flower, but I wish it were half the height. It also seems to collect those red aphids or something like it. You can see them lined up on the stems, obviously sucking on the juice, though that doesn't seem to hurt the blossom.

Super easy to grow. Seems to need sun and doesn't like fighting with the taller things around, but otherwise a great show.

Nice looking little plant. I was taken by how the flowers have a sharp tail and a center that make it look like a small blue bird. The narrow leaves are also very unusual to see. I get both pink and blue flowers on the same plant!

Like all cupheas this one will bloom allsummer. It winters over in Louisiana with some mulching.

I feed only Safflower seeds to the birds and that results in having the flowers coming up all over the yard. I wouldn't plant them on purpose because they really are not a very pretty plant, but for the birds I will tolerate them.

While this is a beautiful tree, it does tend to be disease-prone, especially black knot.
