Jerry Sullivan (2109) wrote the following about Lysimachia clethroides on Dec 08 2010 (Last edit was on Dec 08 2010)

For a year this plant arched its flowered head in a fertile part of a flower bed. The second year up sprouted a new plant four feet away. Well, I thought, I 'll transplant it with the original plant. As I dug it up, it's source also appeared...a runner. Closer inspection revealed 10 more plants and more runners radiating from the parent plant. I gently dug up all the runners and the parent. 12 years have passed, I have 5 plants in partially submerged pots. They flower each year and have not escaped from their prison containers. Grower Beware!! Lovely plant, if you don't mind being a warden.

This much maligned member of the Asteraceae family graces many hillside, yard and dale during the summer months much to the consternation of most gardeners and grounds keepers. As a culinary treat in a green salad it is rich in necessary daily vitamins A, C and K among others. A fact not ignored by Oryctolagus Cuniclus on its evening munching menu. Propagation is accomplished by seed-bearing parachutes riding the summer breezes. When the parachute strikes an object, like a blade of grass or a tree branch, the achene(fruit) is released to fall on the soil below and begin anew.
