I enjoy this sunflower because it does not grow too tall. Last year I grew the mammoth sunflowers and they were too large for my liking. These sunflowers bloom a deep brown/burgundy color that can not be described or compared to anything else. They also have multiple blooms per plant which also differs from the mammoth sunflower. The first one bloomed for me on 7/14 and i'm in zone 7a. Definitely recommend it and EASY to grow. Direct sow.

The photo i've submitted is a very young elephantipes, but you get an idea of the lush foliage which emerges every winter and dies down again under the heat of summer. From Africa, it is a monoecious summer deciduous geophyte, likes winter rains and dry hot summers. The amazing thing is the above ground caudex, which enlarges as it grows to potentially almost 3m in the right conditions. It resembles sectioned, layered, cork ( this plant to young to have developed this feature.)If you're in the right climate, an amazing plant to grow

Called Elephant's Head because the flowers look like the heads of elephants.

That is a gorgeous flower. I would love to have some of those in my garden with my other rose bush. I am looking for new rose bushes to add to the one I already have. This is a gorgeous picture!

All Bigleaf Magnolias need regular water. The Umbrella Magnolia actually looks very tropical although it is a native plant.

One of the loveliest of all native azaleas when in bloom. Very fragrant. Needs regular water to become established, but survives periods of drought once established. Water regularly in late summer when bloom buds are forming for the following spring. Bloom time can be anytime in March or April depending on the weather temperatures.

This native azalea is prized for its late summer blooms. Not fragrant, but the vivid orange - red blooms are visible from a distance. Perfect for a woodland trail, but this plant does need regular water to become established. Prefers a cool shady spot where it will grow very large over time.
