The roots of this plant can make burls, and these are used to make briar pipe heads.

Grows really well here, in Florida. I pinch off the tops and it has grow into a huge, wide bush!

Also, a great way to preserve it, is to snip it up and scoop a teaspoonful into each section of an icecube tray. Top tray off with water

I've heard that it takes at least 10 years for this plant to bloom... and once it does it dies! Mine is fairly young... so I hope to have it around awhile.

A funny thing I noticed when propogating from the stem cuttings. the cutting seems to do much better if you leave it in the same pot as the "mother"... as though it's going through a weaning stage. Once the cutting gets about 5-6 inches... you can transplant it with no problems.

The flowers have a wonderful fragrance. It reminds me of Johnson's baby lotion.

Pear trees come in a wide variety of types and flavors used for fresh and canned fruit, juice, jams and jellies. The Bartlett is an old stand-by but is more rust prone than newer varieties. Root stock determines the over-all size of the tree which typically come in standard, semi-dwarf and dwarf.

Filberts are a great tree to have in your yard. Provide plenty of nuts (need two varieties) if you can beat your pets and squirrels to them. Eastern gray squirrels tend to plant many that have to be pulled and given to friends of tossed into the compost.

One of the more hardy lavenders, although I do not find it as fragrant as some. Interesting flower.

Jewell (5504) wrote the following about Lupinus polyphyllus on May 23 2009

This native to low and midlands in the Puget Sound Region and into British Columbia is a pretty road-side plant that has been cultivated and there are now many colours and shades of the domesticated varieties. The native lupines are very attractive and a little more hardy and look just as good in the garden. They like moist to wet, open habitats and disturbed sites.

It is a Georgia protected species, very rare and endemic only to Georgia's Coastal Plain, being found in only 16 counties.
