Hello! My name is Jeremy Cohen, I'm a photographer turned gardener from Portland. I'm really looking forward to getting a good garden next year. This year I had the hardest time starting plants from seeds, and the few things I did get to grow were eaten by slugs! I've gardened off and on for a few years, doing container gardens as we were living in an apartment.

Welcome to Garden Stew @Jeremy Cohen !

Yes, those slugs can be a challenge! Don't let them get you down - some Sluggo will help. I sprinkle it around my susceptible plants from the start, then regularly as needed.

Containers growing is great, isn't it? They make gardening a lot more accessible.

What do you think was your challenge starting seeds? What were you growing? Did you use seed starting medium? A warming mat? Or plant in the ground?

I'm a little way north of you, up in rural Battle Ground, WA.

Glad to see you here. Any questions to ask or progress to share, just chime in. Some describe their daily updates here -

Hello Jeremy, good luck with your planting next year. Maybe this will give you a little levity with the slugs. Almost Live was a weekly show we used to watch in the 80s or 90s in Washington State. Sluggy was their skit. Bill Nye, the science guy was also big on this show.

I used to have a lot of trouble with snails and slugs but not anymore. I don't know why there's a lot around but i encourage the hedgehogs in my garden. I don't put anything down because of the birds and hedgehogs even the ones that supposed to be alright, those nematodes for slugs didn't help either.
