An update from - http://www.gardenstew.com/threads/tomato-update-3-first-fruit.37555/ A while had passed and lots had happened. Only one of the indeterminate tomato had passed the 6 feet mark while the rest had hardly make it past the 3 feet mark. The one that made it past the 6 feet mark is the one that branched out and is on the left and the leaves did not turn cuppy. Cherry Tomatoes ( photo / image / picture from KK Ng's Garden ) Meanwhile the determinate type was not bushy and they all past the 3 feet bar. They are on the right and their leaves did not turn cuppy except for one plant with the darker coloured fruits (type 2) So far I only lost 1 tomato to ... no idea what happened. Over ripened or lost a battle? ( photo / image / picture from KK Ng's Garden ) From start I had no idea what type of tomatoes they are, only knew that they are cherry type. Type 1 ( photo / image / picture from KK Ng's Garden ) Type 2 ( photo / image / picture from KK Ng's Garden ) Type 3 ( photo / image / picture from KK Ng's Garden ) Type 1 is indeterminate. The original fruit is brownish in colour, round about an inch in diameter and had a nice taste. What I got is red fruits (you are right Tooty2shoes) about 1.5 inches in diameter and taste just like tomatoes. Type 2 and type 3 is from a single fruit. The original fruit is slight smaller than what I got and it is darker brown in colour. The taste is distinct and maybe a little chocolaty I think, It was the distinct taste that prompted me to plant them. Those that I got is dark reddish in colour for type 2 and type 3 had not change yet. I guess they'll be red too! Type 2 also tasted just like tomatoes. I guess they are hybrids originally. First harvest we got about 5 fruits and we had them for dinner last night ... yum! Salad ...yum! Join me? ( photo / image / picture from KK Ng's Garden )
Thanks Islandlife, Netty. Look what I got from my mini-farm yesterday. Homegrown Goodness, YUM! ( photo / image / picture from KK Ng's Garden ) Tasted the tomatoes again and this time by itself, not in a salad. Yes it does have that distinct coco taste but very very faint.
Gosh, KK--Your garden is producing pretty well, I'd say. Nice harvest piccy. The tom plants look good though, don't you think? That one tom that has been roughed-up looks like some sort of animal has been at work--like bird, mouse or rat.
No Islandlife it has been 3 years in this new mini-farm with 6 months of neglect when we were away. Thanks Sjoerd, yes I do think the toms look good but I think it could be better. Ya I think you are right about the one tom. it could be a bird or the squirrel that comes by every morning. Thanks 2ofus, all the fruits taste real good ... better than those store bought one anytime .
