A much easier and quicker project than I anticipated.

    Yours turned out great!!
I did one last year in hopes of turning it into a bird bath. It slid off the wood when we moved it. It survived the fall, but it is an odd shape. I'll try again this year :)

First off... what a GIANT rhubarb leaf!!!
I recall seeing someone else here making one similar.
Maybe I need to plant at least one rhubarb just to get a leaf to try to make one. :D
    Your's looks fantastic!

    Hi Netty,
We didn't move them after we casted them. We let them set right where they were until they were hard. These are almost 2 weeks old now. We had to let them set for a week before we could seal them, but this past week I was too sick to worry about doing anything to them. so now I am ready to finish and start a new batch. I have one gigantic leaf to use and I can't hardly wait to see how it turns out.

    Thanks Cheryl,
I did get the idea here on the stew, someone called them hytufa sp? (or something like that), but it called for peatmoss. Which we didn't use. And the leaf was huge. I have an even bigger one for the next batch.

I really like those. You must let us see them again once they're sealed and put into their permanent home. Well done. :-D

They look fantastic! A friend and I were just talking the other day about trying this.... I'll have to be creative somehow as I don't have any great big leaves.... have any suggestions, anyone?

Can't wait to see how they look in finished form either!

Go to the woods and see if you can find some burdock. these leaves are more elliptical than rhubarb, but are still good sized. you can also check around your neighborhood and ask your friends, sometimes people have the rhubarb in patches and don't do anything with it. don't pick the leaves until you have to, as in just about ready to use them or store them in a garbage bag so they don't wilt.

Oh, your leaf birdbath turned out wonderful. That will look very pretty in the garden.

I would love to try that too. I even bought all the supplies a couple of years ago and just haven't gotten around to it. I think this fall will be a perfect time, though.

Cheryl, if you get Rhubarb to grow down here there is a good chance the heat will prevent it from growing leaves that large.

A large Elephant Ear plant will produce good sized leaves too.

Those are lovely! Well done you.

Now, could you please make a show-and-tell from you pick the leave until you seal the bird bath? How do you make them? Do you put the mass into the leaf or the leaf onto the mass and such?

Yes Droopy, I will do that. I am making them again this week and will do a tutorial on it. As long as we have the weather to do so.
