Similar kind of tree??

Category: Royal Poinciana | Posted: Wed Jun 14, 2006 9:42 pm

I found this guy some weeks back. He decided to lay down roots between my Don Juan rose and my Wisteria. Because he was growing so fast and his leaves very much like my Prince Poins leaves, I thought I would let him stay.

Here is this guy. Now we have a small tree around here Ive been seeing. It looks alot like what Prince Poins will look like fully grown but not nearly as big. Instead of red flowers, it has pink. Im starting to wonder if this is a wayward seed of that. We have these little guys growing everywhere but we mow them down. They are thought of as a weed.

It behaves the same way as Prince Poins as in it curls its leaves at night. And it grows super fast.

Prince Poins-day 6

Category: Royal Poinciana | Posted: Sat Jun 10, 2006 6:38 pm

You know, when I woke up this morning, and saw him open, I can really understand now that he will indeed grow 5 ft a year! At first, I was like, theres no way a tree can grow that fast. Thats no doubt in my mind!

Shhhhhhhhhh, his Highness is sleeping

Category: Royal Poinciana | Posted: Sat Jun 10, 2006 2:26 am

Last night I thought Prince Poin was getting a little dry around the feet and that is why he had closed up his leaves and curled up. It was a little limp to the touch. So I placed him back in his container. And this morning he was doing fine.

Well, it would seem, he was sleeping as he is doing now. He closes his leaves, curls them under and goes to nite-nite.

Here he is just now. He looked just this way last night....just larger! LOL This would explain how he can grow so fast!!! Cuz he sleeps at night!

All curled under..

even the new leaf was tired....

Prince Poins- Day 5

Category: Royal Poinciana | Posted: Fri Jun 09, 2006 2:50 pm

Well, I learned he like to have his feet wet. I had taken his pot out of the ziplocke container it was sitting in. Last night the leaves curled up and were starting to droop. I put him back in the container and water him from the top and the bottom. He is now sitting in about a half inch of water.

I decided to let Sarah the unicorn keep Prince Poins company. She will also help keep track of his growth.

Prince Poins big move.

Category: Royal Poinciana | Posted: Wed Jun 07, 2006 2:24 pm

Morning of Day 3

When I woke up this morning, I grabbed the camera to get some morning shots of his growth.

This is what I found instead....

So I went ahead and repotted him. He has two new leaves coming in! Usually once they have thier first true leaves, I take them out and intro them into the outside world. But Im not taking any chances with this guy!
