Sharp shinned hawk

Hawks come into the garden quite often loking for an easy catch. I caught this one as she perched on an arch in the back garden.

I have a pair of Sparrowhawks that come to feed in my garden. Strangely enough they like to perch on the arch too!! I have never seen a kill but have found the tell-tale ring of feathers when they have eaten.

Handsome hunters aren't they?

It's easy to understand how "watching like a hawk" came into common usage. Great photo Kildale.

Lovely photos! We love birds and are lucky to have about 15 regulars and quite a few migrants in the spring plus lots of interesting water birds and ducks in the lake in winter and summer. I'd love to go birding along your waterfront however. You've got all sorts of species that I haven't checked off in my book yet!
