Starting seeds....

Category: my garden | Posted: Mon Feb 26, 2007 3:26 pm

This weekend I started a few seeds. I went to Walmart and bought one of those nifty Jiffy seed starting kits with the peat pellets and tray. You add 2 quarts of warm water to expand the pellets and then sit back and watch while they expand about 5 times in size. Pretty cool!
Now I have 72 seeded peat pellets sitting on top of my clothes dryer covered with the Jiffy kit's plastic cover. I thought the heat from drying the many clothes of 3 dirty little boys might help with the germination process! I hope my cat doesn't knock it off!!She likes the warm dryer also!!Oh and I'm sure I'll have little boys peeking to see how the seeds are doing also They also thought the expanding pellets were in their words "Ohhhh Awesomeeee!!! If these seeds make it to the garden it will be a miracle in itself!hehe! Luckily I have more just in case!!

I sowed seeds for:
*Echinacea " Magnus"
*Mexican Bird of Paradise
*White Moonflowers
*Lavendar Moonflowers
*Red Cardinal Vine
*Cup and Saucer Vine
*Corkscrew Vine
*Black,Red and Pink Hollyhocks
*Hyacinth Beans
*Black Eyed Susan Vine

I have never grown any of these except the white moonflowers. I hope they grow good. I got all the seeds from my neighbor,so I know they should do good in my garden. I've been gardening for the past 20 years and I learn something new every growing season. I can't wait to get out in the yard and start a new gardening season!I have started alot of vines so I need to have hubby make more trellises for my pathways in the garden. I look so forward to fresh veggies also. Hubby and I got our potatoes planted in the veggie garden weekend before last, so I'm very excited about the veggie garden too. I need to get my onions started also but just haven't got around to it yet. I know I'm slacking!!LOL!!
Well I need to get going and start on housework so I can get out in the yard!!Yipppppeeee!!

You must let us know as soon as your seeds start to sprout GT as we love to hear how others are doing. Things like - what comes up first, how long did it take, did the cat sit on any or the kids knock them over!!! LOL Happy growing.
