My take on cauliflower

I'm taking time this morning to ramble about cauliflower!
Looking through my seed catalogs this year I've noticed colored cauliflower -purple, orange, green and regular old fashioned white. Were those there last year? If so I overlooked them-must have been chasing a kid or the cat at the time!
Colored cauliflower hmmmmm? Hey I might get my 6 and 8 year olds to maybe take a taste and find out they really like it! I personally love a big plate of cauliflower loaded with lots of wonderful cheese sauce, but my hips tend to spread along with the cheese! Oh well ya know I could eat it then just go chase a kid or the cat! Good concept! I just keep surprising myself! teehehe !Ok back to the cauliflower. My 6 month old loves his little jar of broccoli and chicken, I know I was talking about cauliflower not broccoli, hold on this is getting somewhere (rambling remember!).My 6 and 8 year olds say "He likes it because he's a baby and he doesn't know any better"! Oh and if the baby spits out what he doesn't like everyone laughs at him like he is a tiny stand-up comic. If the big boys tried that their act would not go over so well! Purple cauliflower covered in cheese might stir some interest huh? Maybe not, maybe I would be the laughing stock in my own home!
Another problem, is cauliflower a cool weather plant? Would it grow good in our hot, muggy, humid climate? Guess I need to do my research before considering the colored cauliflower huh?
Oh well a mom can dream, but no matter how much I dress up that pretty purple cauliflower, I think this mom can give up the dream of her 6 and 8 year olds eating cauliflower! Hey I could grow it and hubby and I could eat all of it ourselves!! Good concept! There I go again surprising myself! teehehe!

GT, you are one funny lady! Personally I don't like cauliflower, no matter the color, so I would emulate your 8 mo old. And I could get away with it because old people can get away with most anything.
BTW, cauliflower, broccoli and really really yukky brussel sprouts are a winter crop here in New Orleans.

Gardentroll, I think once kids pass the age of about 1 year, they won't eat cauliflower no matter WHAT color it is!! That's OK, more fresh cauliflower for YOU!

They Are a cool weather crop. I plant in March for an early harvest before the hot humid weather kicks in. At least Someone is eating your cauliflower.

Well it's settled since cauliflower is obviously a cool weather crop,I'll just stick with the regular old fashioned white stuff and only cook enough for hubby and I.

GT I'm not a lover of cauliflower either, unless, as you say, it's covered in cheese sauce. I did get my kids to eat it though. How I hear you ask. Well I put it in the blender and then mixed it with their bolognaise sauce or sneaked it into my home-made soups. They never did find out!!!
