If you pick a very big bunch of buttercups and hang them upside-down to dry, the bright yellow colour will last through winter.

Used as a medicinal herb to relieve coughs and colds, rheumatic pains and fevers. Also used as a blood cleanser.

Droopy (10087) wrote the following about Tussilago farfara on Apr 08 2009

The name Tussilago derives from "tussi" - cough, and "agere" - drive out. Has been used as herbal remedy to relieve coughs, but this is no longer recommended because the plant also contains the pyrrolizidin-alcaloid senkirkin which can damage the liver.

The slugs like this lily as much as I do. I always keep some in pots and they do well and often get five feet tall. Otherwise I have to use lots of slug bait. Have wonderful scent.

I like this perennials because it is one of the few that blooms in late summer and fall with a lavender color. Flower stems are tall, and need support. Flowers are semi-double are structured in what I think of as a delicate manner. Once established are easily maintained or multiplied.

My old simple primrose has multiplied and taken care of itself for 25 years. A little plant that is hardy when placed in the correct spot with early blooms every spring.

In my yard it thrives on neglect. Some varieties are highly fragrant with a cinnamon/clove-like smell. In the bed that I planted it in the plant has spread to over 6 feet by 4 feet. Even the smaller plants that were cuttings are between 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 feet square. Needs well drained soil. The fragrance of mine is incredible. I would vote it "Best fragrant flower".
