Syn. Coryphantha sneedii v.leei,Escobaria leei, E.sneedii v.leei, Mammillaria leei, Mammillaria sneedii, Coryphantha sneedii, Coryphantha pygmaeae.
Needs good drainage, very rot-prone.
Dense clusters, reaching more than 100 stems, each 5-12.5 cm long, 1-4 cm in diameter.
Encounterability: Unusual in collections

Distribution: Mexico - Chihuahua, Coahuila de Zaragoza, Durango; USA - New Mexico, Texas
synonymes: Mammillaria tuberculosa, Coryphantha varicolor, C.dasyacantha v.varicolor, Escobaria dasyacantha v.varicolor.
Generally solitary, up to 12 cm tall 7 cm in diameter.
Escobaria tuberculosa is the type species of the genus.
E.strobiliformis is widely used as a syn. for E.tuberculosa, but this is a misnomer and strobiliformis can be identified as E.chihuahuensis.
Encounterability: Unusual in collections

Encounterability in collections: Extremely rare
Synonymes: Toumeya papyracantha, Mammillaria papyracantha, Pediocactus papyracanthus, Echinocactus papyracanthus.
This sp. has an excellent camouflage, grows in open grasslands, associated with gramma grass and is seldom seen.

It has seed pods that look like oats, hence the common name Northern sea oats. They turn copper in winter. It will become a blue-green color in shade.

It takes little watering, has pretty foliage, and small but bright flowers. However, it is a headache to weed the pachysandra patch.

It is usually considered as favoring well-drained soil, but it grows just fine in my clay soil.

It is excellent. It is a good cut flower, lasts a long time in bouquets, and is one of the few plants in my garden that holds its own against the daisies.
