My world with Nature.

Photographs, and a few words about the birds that visit the garden and those that I manage to see.

Downy Woodpecker.

Category: My wildlife images | Posted: Mon Jan 11, 2010 7:25 am

I've had five woodpeckers visit the garden and this downy is one. The flicker hasn't been around for a while to the feeders but I have seen them in the garden.

Bushtit.

Category: My Garden Birds | Posted: Sat Jan 09, 2010 7:42 pm

The witch hazel is flowering already and when we see the weather in the UK we wonder how the birds are doing over there. There was a bit of sad news in our paper today, where I was taking pics at a lake over Christmas, they found a womans body in the water.

Category: My Garden Birds | Posted: Fri Jan 08, 2010 6:10 pm

This is the first time I have caught a merganser out of the water. I just managed the one shot though.

Bath night.

Category: My Garden Birds | Posted: Thu Jan 07, 2010 7:40 am

Just a few bushtits enjoying the water. I have 6 dishes like this one spread along the railing around the deck, the bushtits use the same one all the time. If it is full of birds, they wait, they don't go to one of the other dishes.

A different water bird.

Category: My Garden Birds | Posted: Wed Jan 06, 2010 10:57 pm

Not like the others shown here but definately a water bird always in on the water. American dipper. Goes under the water for bugs, swims under water and rest close to the water. Took a few shots of one today.

These lesser scaup also come out this way for the winter. There are sometimes 20 or more of them together.

Harlequin ducks

Category: My wildlife images | Posted: Mon Jan 04, 2010 5:50 pm

I don't see these too often and would like to get a few more photos of them. The male is really odd coloured, the female is rather dull.

Two wigeon at the lagoon.

Category: My wildlife images | Posted: Sun Jan 03, 2010 7:21 am

A lot of the ducks come here for the winter from the prairies and return there to nest. Gives me a great chance to get images of them. Here are a couple of American Wigeon. I have an Eurasian wigeon too.

Mallards on ice.

Category: My wildlife images | Posted: Fri Jan 01, 2010 11:03 pm

We had a bit of frost this last week and the ducks had a little bit of trouble walking on the ice. Here are a couple of the mallards.
