A rare visitor today.

Category: My Garden Birds | Posted: Fri Oct 03, 2014 6:19 pm

It is not a rare bird to the area but it is a marsh type of bird. They nest in among the bull rushes etc. Only comes for 2 or 3 visits but usually in Dec/Jan time. I was going to post a hummingbird till this one came to the deck.

I like this one. :) We have them here and also the yellow winged black bird. They both look great with those bright markings on the wings.

We used to see the occasional Red Winged Blackbird here. Sadly I haven't seen any for years now.

Interesting beak, very sharp looking.

If you have Blackbirds, these are the ones to have! They are much better behaved than most! They are gone from here now, but we love seeing them when they return in early spring. i like their call too, very distinctive.
