Similar to Hakonechloa macra Aureola, but somewhat more erect. Leaves are green and white striped as opposed to Aureola's which are more golden. This Hakonechloa grows faster than Aureola (which is very slow growing), and will fill a 2X4 area withen 3 years. Cut back the dying winter foliage in early spring. Like all plants with variegated foliage, Hakone grass will light up a shady spot.

AgnesKS (43) wrote the following about Rudbeckia hirta on Sep 12 2011 (Last edit was on Sep 12 2011)

The ones I have are Rudbeckia Hirta 'Becky' or Cinnamon. Some of them are different as I start them from seeds. They are very, very easy to grow here for zone 6. I just throw the tired blooms out there somewhere amongst the weeds...and out there they are. Prolific bloomers and the plants do look very tired after blooming non stop..then I'll cut them down to the ground. Even when I don't have the time to water them sometimes, they're still quite drought tolerant. They don't seem to like the pine needles here. Perhaps, too acidic.

Cayuga Morning (1356) wrote the following about Ajuga reptans on Sep 12 2011

The flowers are very pretty and do well in arrangements, but the plant is highly aggessive in my yard. It has taken over whole sections of our lawn. We do not use weed killer, so it is labor intensive, digging it up to get rid of it. Beware! I would not plant this plant! I have a friend in town who has had a similar experience: buying a property from someone else who let ajuga loose in the yard, then having to expend considerable effort once the plant has taken hold. I live in New England. Maybe elsewhere it is not so invasive? It is marketed though as a foolproof ground cover.

This plant is subject to iris borer, although certainly not to the extent that German iris is.

I grow the white phlox paniculata 'David' in my garden. It is billed as being mildew resistent, and I have found this to be true. It is rarely bothered by mildew, whereas another phlox right next to 'David' will be covered in it.

A friend gave me a small section. I sorely regret accepting it. Can't get rid of it.

The leaves kind of look like jaws with rows of pink teeth.

Poisonous in large quantities................................................

Cayuga Morning (1356) wrote the following about Asarum europaeum on Sep 02 2011

European ginger has rounded dark green GLOSSY leaves. The glossiness of the leaves is what makes this plant so attractive.

This plant is neither a fern nor a moss, but rather something in between. It also has leaves covering it's stem which are used to gather more light for photosynthesis. This is a common characteristic distinguishes the Selaginella genus.
