I was a little disappointed with "Grandpa Ott" after having grown "Heavenly Blue". It wasn't as vigorous and the blooms were smaller and fewer.

It has an interesting habit of dropping its petals some time before the calyx wilts.

Trust me, you do NOT want to try to grow this as a houseplant. It can take the winter, but it hates indoor life.

I find it surprising that it's grown more for foliage than flowers; the flowers are very pretty.

Thanks for sharing this beautiful plant, AC! I love this plant when I was in Singapore. This is known as a "Prosperity Plant" (for the Chinese) and we tie little red ribbons around the plant during Chinese Lunar New Year. Feb 14, 2010 will be our Lunar New Year. Try tying little red ribbons to make it look festive and the color red, will bring in good fortune energy to your home. If you are tying the red ribbons, do it on the day b4 Feb 13. Wishing you and yours, a very Blessed, Healthy, Prosperous 2010.

I did not mean to give this a 1 star rating. Could not figure out how to change the rating. It is a hardy hosta and spreads quickly.

Spectacular globe-shaped clusters of purple flowers. It looks good with red columbine.
