The Growing Begins!!

Ze Bed!! ( photo / image / picture from KK Ng's Garden )

Finally the bed was done the day before yesterday

Mulched ( photo / image / picture from KK Ng's Garden )

and the fiery sun reappeared while it was mulched. Those whitish spots are where the toms are going to go in and they were put there so that the soil would be exposed when they are removed.

With the crazy weather, the mini farm is more of a mini jungle!!

The Chosen Ones ( photo / image / picture from KK Ng's Garden )

Yesterday was planting day and the specially selected seedlings was a sight for sore eyes .... they were severely attacked by leaf miners.

Reserves ( photo / image / picture from KK Ng's Garden )

Luckily I kept the extras after selecting the best 6 seedlings to be planted. They too were attacked by leaf miners but they are doing much better than those selected ones. I guess the attack rate per plant was much less because there were much more plants here. Anyway I got rid of the part of the leaves that was attacked.

Pot Removed ( photo / image / picture from KK Ng's Garden )

I had the whole pot submerged in water to loosen up the growing media before lifting the seedlings out of the pot. The media I used was 100% compost. I wanted all the seedlings out of the pot so that I can easily seperate them.

Plant them deep!! ( photo / image / picture from KK Ng's Garden )

Plant them deep is very clear in my mind after having two very diappointing attempt to grow toms, but then again how deep!! With the seedlings in my palm I had to make a quick decision and I decided on up to the first leaves. Having already dug the hole I dropped the seedling in to check if the depth is OK ....... like as though I already knew the depth I wanted, it was just perfect. Guess it must be the thought of "Plant them deep" in my mind that made me dug a deeper hole than normal. Thanks for that one very important point to those who had commented on my 2 earlier attempts at toms.

All in a row. ( photo / image / picture from KK Ng's Garden )

Looking at the toms all in a row makes me very pleased with myself! It was a pleasing moment to see that that part is done and now it's time to decide how to grow them .....trellis, cage, poles.......
