My world with Nature.

Photographs, and a few words about the birds that visit the garden and those that I manage to see.

A garden fly.

Not really a pretty thing but it is a neat fly. They are not all the same, there are some different colored ones.

Staying with insects.

Category: My Garden Birds | Posted: Sun Aug 09, 2009 5:37 pm

Here is a Resin Bee. Good for the flowers and much smaller than the honey bees etc.Neat pattern and the black and white is a nice change from all the black and yellow ones that we have.

An interesting insect.

Category: My Garden Birds | Posted: Fri Aug 07, 2009 4:26 am

I have changed the title of this blog to suit other nature subjects. I'm into insects etc as I get a few calls for images. This is an interesting insect as it hunts spiders. It's a spider wasp.

Female Cowbird.

Category: My Garden Birds | Posted: Sun Aug 02, 2009 5:26 am

In June I posted the male cowbird here, since then I managed to get a few shots of the female. This was the first time I have had one on the deck and I had not seen one either. I have shots of a finch feeding a young one, as you may know, they lay their eggs in other birds nests. Anyway, this is the female.

Pileated Juvenile and mam.

Category: My Garden Birds | Posted: Wed Jul 29, 2009 3:33 pm

Thank you for the comments about the stilt and the latest heron shot. I had a nice surprise yesterday, not the best shot though, but hoping for better today. After feeding this pileated for a couple of years, its quite tame now and sits around while I put out some food for it. It brought junior here.

A Cattle Egret

Category: My Garden Birds | Posted: Mon Jul 27, 2009 3:40 pm

Thank you all for the comments, glad I'm forgiven for that little fib. The Great Egret has black legs while the cattle egret has yellow legs. So this egret is the cattle egret, taken in Hawaii.

The last bird

Category: My Garden Birds | Posted: Thu Jun 18, 2009 6:37 pm

This is the brown headed cowbird, lays its eggs in other nests. Its hard to keep this blog as you can't really reply to peoples comments so this will be the last of the birds. Thanks for looking at the previous ones, glad that you enjoyed them.

Caspian Tern today.

Category: My Garden Birds | Posted: Wed Jun 17, 2009 6:03 pm

I see these terns each time I go down to the lagoon. I managed one shot last year of one in flight (not very good I might add). Today I caught a couple on the ground which gave me another chance of a photo. I took a couple before they were off again. Perhaps I might do better next time.

A couple for the weekend.

Category: My Garden Birds | Posted: Sat Jun 13, 2009 5:02 am

As I'm busy at a craft fair this weekend, I thought that I should add a couple of birds this time. The male and female Brewers Blackbird, as close as we can get to the UK blackbird.
