I forgot it could get this cold !
Category: Ed's Balcony Garden | Posted: Tue Jan 07, 2014 7:16 pm Well friends I know its cold all over the US, but 11 degrees with a wind chill of -16 is WAY to cold for New Jersey. I woke up this morning and my sliding door to balcony frozen and once open now I can't lock it,and worse downstairs its SO cold you can see your breath (had to put space heater to warm it up. The stupid thing is the people downstairs refuse to turn their heater on. The heated bird bath is plugged in and frozen,and there is a bird bell and suet block plus bread are all out for the little ones to eat. And to think,years ago I used to climb phone poles and ladders in this weather (I must have been crazy) And an update on new teeth,they were in for 5 minutes and had to take them out. Thank goodness I went out and got food yesterday,I think I'll take a nap. Sleep warm friends. ed

Getting Cooler
Category: Ed's Balcony Garden | Posted: Sat Nov 02, 2013 8:28 pm Well friends its getting cooler and my mouth still hurts. Yesterday was overcast and windy and wet,but that's over. I finally cleared my tomato plants of their fruit(2) The mice are still living in the base and I love to watch them. I saved some photo's that I think you may like to like. Sleep warm Ed

Getting Cooler
Category: Ed's Balcony Garden | Posted: Wed Oct 23, 2013 6:20 pm Well friends its finally getting cooler here as they say we might have our first frost. I have a problem,cause I still have tomatos on the vine and ALL my plants are still outside. Its been a crazy time around here and still not finished. I went to Dentist to get 1 tooth removed and when its all done I have them all removed and false ones installed. Its a minor bill,but $4000.00 and being retired its costly. My Christmas cactus has MANY blooms and will send some pictures when it blooms. Everyone take and sleep warm ed

Almost Fall

My Hummingbird has left me,making me sad. My neighbor is doing everything to kill everything here including my weather station. Not sure what to do. Category: Ed's Balcony Garden | Posted: Mon Sep 02, 2013 6:05 pm Happy Labor Day to all my friends here. Its been raining all Morning and might be clearing just in time to get my BBQ grill out and use it. The BIG news is I finally have a Humming bird visiting my feeder. I almost gave up,but the little bird is now visiting my feeder about 10 times today alone. All my plants are doing great. The picture of the Hummer isn't great but I will to try to get better pictures in the future. Have a great holiday. ed

Way too hot
Category: Ed's Balcony Garden | Posted: Fri Jul 19, 2013 9:48 pm Well friends,its way to hot here in NJ. Right now it feels 110 degrees,but a lovely 84 inside with A/C and 2 fans on. I finally broke down and moved my babies into the shade. I can't wait till Fall to get cooler. Most of my dinners are soup,cause its fast and can use microwave. Tell me what you think of my babies in the shade. Sleep COOL! ed

need help
Category: Ed's Balcony Garden | Posted: Sun Jul 07, 2013 9:34 pm My tomato plant in a Topsy turvey is growing tomatos but the end of the leaves are turning brown and dead. Is it either too much water or not enough. Weather in New Jersey was VERY wet now heat indexes are 100+ Also why are cherry tomatos (at least mine) have thick skins? Category: Ed's Balcony Garden | Posted: Sat Jun 29, 2013 7:08 pm Well friends it's been a while since I was here. I had to bring all my plants inside,because I was informed that were going to replace my balcony,LAST MONDAY!! SO I sit a wait,but the tomato plants are outside and getting SO BIG. We had some crazy weather this past week and they say there's a good chance of more storms ALL next week. I've enclencludede photo's of the storm and my downstairs flowers which are doing great. My new neighbor below me doesn't speak English but she knows how to take care of plants. M poorHMrose bush was beautiful when it bloomed but is now without a leaf because of Aphids. I sprayed a product but I think it only made them eat more,like salad dressing on the leaves. sleep cool ed

Gonna get HOT today
Category: Ed's Balcony Garden | Posted: Thu May 30, 2013 3:28 pm Well friends,its been awhile since I wrote on my blog. Its been cool here and now they say its supposed to go to 90 today. My tomato plants are doing great,and one plant has several and the other 2 have blooms. After much yelling at the little kids around here,they are leaving flowers are doing very well. I hope everyone had a Happy Memorial Day this past weekend as mine was very good. Looks like my A/C will be on all day and with temps in the 80's tonight I will need it. Well friends its time for me to feed the birds and get some lunch. Take care and sleep cool. ed
